Senior vets from around the world have written to FEI president Princess Haya condemning the decision to allow medication in competition horses. As part of its so-called "clean sport programme" the FEI decided last week to allow six substances — many of which are painkilling — to be used during competition. Before that, the FEI has always had a "zero tolerance" policy on drugs in sport, and the about-turn caused outrage.

Philippine Olympic Committee president Jose Cojuangco Jr. will stay as chief of the Equestrian Association of the Philippines (EAP) at least for the next 20 days. Disgruntled members of the Equestrian Association of the Philippines successfully secured a temporary restraining order (TRO) which disrupted a scheduled election late afternoon yesterday.

The three largest national polo associations, representing well over half of the world’s amateur and professional players, have resigned their membership of the Federation of International Polo (FIP).
The Asociación Argentina de Polo (AAP) withdrew from the international federation on 26 October 2009, followed on 27 October by the US Polo Association (USPA) and the Hurlingham Polo Association (HPA), governing body of the sport in the UK and Ireland.
