Ambak brothers lead clean sweep at Premier Cup
Sunday, June 15th, 2008
Brothers Qabil and Quzier Ambak led a clean sweep of the top three places for 3Q Equestrian club on the second day of the Premier Cup Series Showjumping event at Taman Equestrian Putrajaya on Saturday..
The brothers, both national riders, made up for a poor start yesterday to clinch the honours today, and at the same time tuned up for the FEI World Cup qualifying round on Sunday.
Qabil who finished second in the Class 31 Masters on Friday behind Helena Gabrielsson of Sweden, rode his Amadeus Van De Boswinning to a faultless round today with a time of 73.86 seconds to win the Class 36 Rapid Masters title.
Quzier who finished sixth yesterday, put up a much polished display astride Calano to take second place with a time of 80.78 while team-mate Andika Jamaludin made it a memorable outing for 3Q Equestrian by taking third place on 82.56.
Tomorrow the riders will again feature in the FEI World Cup (1st Qualifier )qualifying round which will give them points towards their quest to qualify for the prestigious event in Las Vegas, USA next April.
Qabil will be hoping for another superb ride tomorrow although the horse he is riding for this competition, Amadeus Van De Boswinning, is not as experienced as his favourite horse Parvina which is nursing an eye infection.
He had won a silver and bronze medal at the 2006 Doha Asian Games and four gold medals at the Korat SEA Games last year, with Parvina.
Meanwhile, 10-year-old Wan Junaida Wan Ahmad Johari emerged as the most promising local rider in the dressage Preparatory 1 after finishing third .
The Standard Four student of Sekolah Kebangsaan Cyberjaya who aspires to become a doctor who specializes in organ transplant and an accomplished dressage competitor, collected 62.33 points.
“This is my first competition and I am very happy to have finished in third place. This will certainly inspire me to train harder as my horse Casper was a little weak in the “trot” discipline. I will work towards improving that aspect,” said Wan Junaida who took up riding just a year ago.
“Though my father is not a rider, he sends me to the Taman Equestrian Putrajaya twice a week and I train for about two hours each session,” she said.
