Qabil thrills with Parvina
Sunday, July 13th, 2008

by Peter Ibrahim Abisheganaden

Qabil Ambak celebrated the return of his favourite horse Parvina with a slashing win in the FEI World Cup class in the 3QE Classic at 3Q Equestrian this afternoon.   Parvina had missed with the first two South East Asian World Cup qualifiers with an eye infection.  She showed she is in top form despite the delayed start to her season.

The class was a proper World Cup in that it was big enough at 1.40 - 1.45 m.  FEI Official Course Designer Werner Deeg designed an 11 fence course  with treble.   Three of the nine starters made the jump off.

There was a problem with the FEI fence at No 4, which claimed three eliminations.  Jennifer Chang's Luxor 91, who had finshed 2nd at the Premier Cup Series World Cup #2 two weeks ago took great exception to the purple vertical, diving away from it and jumping into the treble backwards as he bolted away from it.  Helena Gabrielsson's Nixon de la Tourette, who won the World Cup two weeks ago, was another high profile casualty of this fence.  Syed Zain and Linus also went out at the FEI fence.

Helena and King Power Aladdin (pic right) were the first to go clear, setting the pace for the others to follow.  14 year old Aladdin looked in striking form, always going forward in his easy style.   Helena, as always, give him a brilliant ride.

Qabil and Parvina were obviously enjoying their first World Cup of the season.  The Westfalien mare looks in fine shape, and was showing lots of scope over the big fences.

Andika Jamaluddin and Chivas had an early fence and the first and third parts of the treble for 12 faults.

Quzier Ambak (pic right) had become a father this week, but it was all business when he and Calano entered the arena.  The big horse didn't jump the FEI fence very well but managed to clear it.  Quzier was even luckier at the 10th fence as Calano hammered the vertical and though it rocked and rolled, it stayed in the cups.  They rode their luck to register the third clear of the afternoon.

Qabil came out with Amadeus Van Boswinning to record an 8 faulter.  Hong Kong's Jacqueline Lai and Gamo had an early fence down and a stop at the first part of the treble.  They completed the course with 8 jumping faults.

The Jump-off was a good one.  Helena and Aladdin again set the pace with a galloping clear round.  It  looked quick at 46.71 seconds.  Qabil and Parvina didn't look that quick  at the gallop, but it was a ruthlessly efficient round.  They were quick to turn and never wasted an extra yard as they rode a tighter track.   They made it look easy as they coasted home in 45.41 seconds.

Quzier and Calano were never going to be able to catch them, and try as he may, he still finished over two seconds slower, for third place.
