Jump-Off 70
Wednesday, August 20th, 2008

I’m used as cannon fodder.  They said send the old bugger out first and see what happens. ~ Mark Todd at the Olympics in Hong Kong

Polo Streakers

A trio of streakers bared themselves to the Prince Charles and 25,000 spectators at the Cartier International Polo event in England.

Lucky Olympic Number

Chinese preoccupation with the lucky number 8 emerged at the Olympics with the opening ceremony happening on 08.08.08.  Did any notice that the time allowed for the shortened cross-country course was 8 minutes? Or that the time allowed in the showjumping is always 88 seconds?

Jump-Off thinks this is getting to be too much of a coincidence.

FEI Eventing Chairman 'snubbed'

Wayne Roycroft said he was snubbed by Chinese Olympic officials after being excluded from the Eventing team medal presentation and was now considering stepping down as chairman of the International Equestrian Federation eventing committee, a position he has held for eight years.

Paid Volunteerism

What about the steward who volunteered to serve at the Equestrian Olympics in Hong Kong?  Having been accepted by the organisers, she now is asking her NF to complain that she wasn’t selected as an International technical Official.  The difference – expenses are paid for ITO’s, while volunteers, um, volunteer their services.

EAM AGM Postponed

The overdue and long awaited Annual General Meeting of the Equestrian Association of Malaysia was postponed as the 2007 accounts were not presented.  The Sports Commissioner was present and the meeting postponed a further six months, enabling the EAM to hold their next elections in 2009.  The last elections were held in 2005.

He’s not called President For Life for nothing.

On All fours

A German dressage judge, after marking three movements, told a scribe and trainee judge to fill in the rest of the test with all 4's.

Macha’s Song

12 Goals

"Datuk Mohamed Moiz, who started the match with a handicap of 12, turned hero for BRDB when he scored a hat-trick."  ~ New Straits Times, 19th August 2008.

Polo handicaps go up to a maximum handicap of 10.  +12 would make Dato' Mohamed the world's highest rated player.  Malaysia Boleh!

Jumping to Polo

Congrats to Ikhwan Hafiz Jamaluddin, the latest jumping star to make the switch from jumping to polo.

Too Chav for Polo

Jordan's worth £50m and has even had her boobs reduced... but she's still too CHAV for polo.
Or is polo too chav for her.  She is not too chav for Eventing as Princess Anne invites Kate to Gatcombe

Miley Cyrus does the equestrian look

Teen queen Miley Cyrus goes for equestrian fashion for a gig in New York City

Fatties

UK has the opposite problem to Melinsung.

Anything for her horse

A former Miss Wyoming talked a 15-year-old boy into breaking into a house to raise money so she could buy a prosthetic leg for a beloved horse.

Dato' Malik

Malaysian Equine Council's Malik Jeremiah received the
Dato' Setia Diraja Kedah Award in recognition of his 20 years service to the State of Kedah and for his major contribution in reviving horse sports in the state of Kedah.
