Melbourne Cup Fever hits Kuala Lumpur
Monday, September 22nd, 2008

Frock up and join in the fun and festivities of Melbourne’s Spring Racing Carnival at The Westin Kuala Lumpur, Jalan Bukit Bintang on Tuesday 4 November from 11 am -3pm.

The hotel, in collaboration with Tourism Victoria, is organizing this fantastic champagne brunch to celebrate The Melbourne Cup, highlight of Melbourne’s Spring Racing Carnival.

The Melbourne Cup is a world class event showcasing thoroughbred racing, fashion and entertainment at its finest and is held in Melbourne on the first Tuesday in November every year.

KL’s finest will be able to dress up with hat et al with the help of local fashion designer, Salabianca. There will be special hats and gowns fit for the races available at all Salabianca stores. There will be prizes for the best dressed, best hat etc. You have to be in it to win it.

With wines sponsored by Albert Wines & Spirits Sdn. Bhd, there will be an all- you – can - eat special buffet with free-flow bubbly from start to finish.

The Melbourne Cup now known as Emirates Melbourne Cup is the richest handicap race in the world attracting up to 120,000 people on race day.

It is more than just a horse race. In Australia it is “the race that stops a nation”. An estimated 700 million people in 120 countries and territories view the Emirates Melbourne Cup worldwide each year, while millions more either view or listen to the event on the internet.

The Victoria Racing Club (VRC) staged the first running of the Melbourne Cup at Flemington racecourse in 1861. Over 148 years since its inception, the Emirates Melbourne Cup is a social and cultural tradition that literally brings Australia to a standstill. It has played a principal role in establishing Victoria’s Spring Racing Carnival as Australia’s major annual sporting event.
